Like to dabble with paint, aged over 50, and live on the Coast? It's time to enter Council's annual Grandma Moses Art Competition!
With more than $3,000 in prize money on offer, it's a great opportunity to brush up on painting skills, exhibit artwork and potentially win.
The competition has numerous categories, including open, watercolour, novice, members' groups and Central Coast themed.
Each year, budding artists aged 50 and over pick up their paintbrushes and enter the prestigious Grandma Moses Art Competition and Exhibition. Gay Pickering was the winner of the Open category in 2022 for her landscape oil painting titled 'Hawkesbury' (artwork used in this year’s promotional campaign).
This long-standing fixture on the cultural calendar takes inspiration from the life and work of Anna Mary Robertson Moses. Better known as 'Grandma Moses', she became famous for her evocative artworks that depicted American rural life, after taking up painting in her 70s.
Entry forms (Part A) must be submitted by Wednesday 30 August 2023 via email to melissa.metcalfe@centralcoast.nsw.gov.au or to Central Coast Council, 2 Hely Street, Wyong.
All entered paintings must be delivered on Monday 11 September (between 9am and 1pm) to the Gosford 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre, 217 Albany Street North, Gosford.
All entries will be exhibited from 12 to 14 September 2023 (10.30am to 3.30pm) at the Gosford 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre. Prize-winners will be announced at the Centre on Tuesday, 12 September at 10.30am. Entrants and friends are all welcome to a morning tea following the presentations.
