Draft concept design plans for the redevelopment of Umina Skate Park and adjoining recreational zones are now on display online at yourvoiceourcoast.com and ready for further community feedback until 21 April.

The community have strongly supported plans for Central Coast Council to further enhance the Peninsula Recreation Precinct and now that funding has been secured from the Australian Government, our community’s goal will become a reality.

On Saturday 30 March, Member for Robinson, Lucy Wicks announced an $8.25million grant from the Federal Government for a number of upgrades to the Peninsula Recreation Precinct and adjacent facilities at Umina Oval. A significant portion of the funding is allocated to the redevelopment of Umina Skate Park, BMX track and adjoining recreation areas.

Mayor Jane Smith said Council was pleased to be partnering with the Australian Government to deliver the community’s vision for an upgraded skate park in Umina.

“Our community value quality recreational spaces and we are committed to delivering them,” Mayor Smith said.

“Thanks to this partnership with the Federal Government, we will provide a built-for-purpose, safe and engaging skate park, enhancing the recreational opportunity and quality of life on the Peninsula.

“It will provide an economic boost for the area too, attracting significant regional and national skating events to the state of the art facilities.

Central Coast Council Director Environment and Planning, Scott Cox said that Council has listened to the community to ensure the concept designs for the new recreational area is based on the community’s needs and vision.

“We were overwhelmed with the response we received during the community consultation held late last year – over 650 people shared feedback and ideas through surveys, school workshops and information drop-ins.

“We’re now checking back in with community to see if the design of the new skate park and adjoining areas is on the right path and it’s exciting to know funding has been secured to deliver this project.”

Council allocated funding from the 2018-19 Operational Plan to undertake community consultation for the development of these concept designs. Now that funding has been secured for this project, Council will be able to progress forward with planning for its construction.

Community members can check out the concept design plans online, and have their say at yourvoiceourcoast.com.

The concept design plans will remain on display for comments until 21 April.
