Safety improvement works for Willoughby Road, Wamberal

Central Coast Council will commence further safety improvement works at Willoughby Road, Wamberal in January 2019.

Works include the installation of traffic calming devices at two intersections either side of the causeway (dip), a section of kerb and gutter, and footpath and bus stop upgrades.

The construction of raised intersections at Windsor Road and Fairway Drive will slow motorists travelling through this area and will be similar to the traffic calming treatment at the intersection of Aspen Avenue.

This $272,000 project is funded by the NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program and Council and is being delivered as part of Council’s 2018-19 Capital Works Program.

Construction of this important safety project will commence in January 2019 and will take approximately 13 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

During the 2017-18 financial year, Council completed safety improvements on Willoughby Road which included a drainage culvert extension and headwall construction, shoulder widening and the provision of a non-skid pavement surface from Selma Close to the causeway (approximately 540 metres). The application of this non-skid pavement allows for improved surface grip which results in decreased braking distances and reduces the likelihood of vehicles leaving the roadway in all-weather conditions. Following installation of the non-skid pavement, double centreline and edgelines were placed along the road with raised pavement markers.
