Central Coast Council encourages budding artists aged 50 or over to enter its popular Grandma Moses Art Competition.

Now in its 37th year, this renowned art competition and exhibition is inspired by Anna Mary Robertson – dubbed ‘Grandma Moses’ – who earnt fame for her evocative depictions of American rural life. She took up painting aged 78 and produced art until she was 101.

Council’s Director Connected Communities, Julie Vaughan said the essence of the competition is that it’s never too late to learn new skills.

“The Grandma Moses program is more than just a popular art exhibition – it is a celebration of the contributions older people make to our community’s cultural fabric. It highlights that learning and achievement continues well into our senior years,” she said.

With more than $3,000 in prize money, the competition offers avenues for every artistic palette, including Open, Watercolour, Novice, Central Coast Inspired and a special category for 50+ Leisure & Learning Centre and Senior Centre Art Group Members.

Entries close on Friday 23 August.

Prize-winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 10 September at 10.30am at the Gosford 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre, located at 217 Albany Street North, Gosford.

All entries will be on exhibition at the Centre from 10-12 September from 10.30am to 4pm.
