13/12/2018A diverse mix of young people have been appointed as members of Y4Y (Youth for Youth), the Coast’s first regional youth action team.
Central Coast Council today announced the names of the 12 young people who will represent the Coast’s young people for the next 15 months.
Team members range in age from 14 to 24. Some are students at school, TAFE or university while others are in the workforce. During September and October, Council ran a campaign encouraging young people to nominate for Y4Y.
Council Director, Connected Communities, Julie Vaughan said the new team would help ‘make it happen’ for young people by advocating, advising and acting on youth issues.
“During its 15-month term, Y4Y will help develop the Council’s youth strategy, run a youth forum and develop other events, resources or activities for young people,” Ms Vaughan said.
Early in their term, team members will attend a leadership camp and will participate in ongoing skills development to assist them in their role.
Mayor Jane Smith said the Y4Y team will engage and empower young people.
“Young people aged between 12 and 24 represent 15.3% of the Coast’s population, or more than 50,000 people and their voices need to be heard,” Mayor Smith said.
“The Y4Y will give them that voice in Council decision-making as they help shape the future of the Coast.”
The 12 Y4Y members are:
Maia Ambridge, Wamberal
Tasmin Caldwell, Woy Woy
