$20M extra for Road Renewal Program

Central Coast Council plans to allocate an extra $20million over the next four years in road renewals to improve local road conditions and address infrastructure work backlogs.

Road renewal works include resurfacing and rehabilitation, providing long-term solutions as part of the full life cycle of road maintenance and management.

Central Coast Council’s Director Infrastructure and Services, Boris Bolgoff said maintaining a road network of over 2,200kms is no small feat, which is why the largest percentage of Council’s budget and resources is allocated to roads.

“This additional $20million investment is proposed to fast track priority road renewals and will be included in the draft Delivery Program and 2025-26 Operational Plan that will be placed on public exhibition in May,” Mr Bolgoff said.

“In addition, we will continue to strongly advocate for more grant funding from the Australian and NSW governments to further improve our roads.”

Central Coast Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said that he recognises that maintaining our local roads is an important issue for many residents. The proposed additional $20million program has been developed based on Council’s pavement management system in partnership with Councillors and with insight from the community.

“We have listened to the concerns of our community and understand that road renewal is a high priority,” Mayor McKinna said.

“I’m delighted that Council is proposing further investment in the renewal of local roads, and that a long-term approach to road management is being taken.

“This is an exciting investment in our future. I thank Councillors for their hard work at our strategic workshop that prioritised those local roads most in need of renewal, which helped to inform the allocation of additional funds.”

Mr Bolgoff said community feedback has been loud and clear that the community want to be kept up-to-date on progress being made on road renewal works.

“In response to that, we are also developing a new interactive online map which the community can access to see detail of scheduled road renewal works for each year over the coming 10 years.

“This initiative, available from 1 July 2025, will provide increased transparency to the community about what is being done during the Road Renewal Program.”
