31/10/2024Central Coast Council has successfully completed shutdown 3 of the Mardi Water Treatment Plant upgrade ahead of schedule. This achievement marks significant progress in the ongoing upgrade project, securing our region’s water supply for the future.
During the third shutdown, Council focused on testing and installing new equipment, relocating existing systems to facilitate construction and performing essential repair work. These enhancements improve the plant’s durability and operational flexibility, ultimately contributing to the provision of safer drinking water once the upgrade is complete.
While shutdown 3 has been a major step forward, additional shutdowns are scheduled for 2025 to continue future-proofing this vital asset.
Council’s Director of Water and Sewer, Danielle Hargreaves, highlighted the importance of upgrading the plant in line with Council’s Water Security Plan.
“The upgrade will help the plant meet rising water quality standards and growing demand, ensuring it is better equipped to handle periods of high rainfall, algal blooms and drought.
“Two further shutdowns are planned for 2025 and we will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses,” Ms Hargreaves said.
The Mardi Water Treatment Plant upgrade represents a major investment in the community’s water security, with $82.5 million in funding from Central Coast Council and a $6.85 million contribution from the NSW Government’s Restart Safe and Secure Water Program.
