Council will host a new Responsible Pet Ownership Event on Saturday 19 February 2022 at Terilbah Reserve, The Entrance North.

The event will see SoCares and the Animal Welfare League join Council’s Community Safety team in promoting responsible pet ownership.

There will also be over 15 local pet-related businesses holding stalls and delivering demonstrations on the day. Attendees can expect everything from pet photobooths and portraits, to stallholders sharing information about pet Reiki, dog fit conditioning and performance, doggie date clubs, grooming services and more.

Council Acting Unit Manager Environmental Compliance and Systems, Luke Sulkowski said the new event is important in enhancing community’s knowledge on the responsibilities of being a pet owner.

“This new event has been developed to promote responsible pet ownership through encouraging microchipping, registration, desexing, walking on a lead and cat containment,” Mr Sulkowski said.

“SoCares will be on site to provide a free microchipping and check your chip service to attendees, while the Animal Welfare League will bring their mobile vet truck and offer low-cost vaccinations, free health checks and pet care advice.

“These are all ways to help increase the number of identified, registered, desexed dogs and cats within our community.”

Council Administrator, Rik Hart said that it’s important we continue to educate and promote the importance of responsible pet ownership within the local community.

“We are lucky enough to have a number of open spaces across the Central Coast that we can enjoy with our pets and it’s important that we are doing so appropriately as a community,” Mr Hart said.

“I encourage local residents to take advantage of the important pet-related services being offered at the new event, whilst supporting local businesses on the day.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the local community to come together and enjoy some time with their beloved pets.”

The Animal Welfare League will provide discounted C3 vaccinations for dogs and F3 vaccinations for cats only at $35 per vaccination, with no bookings required.

The event will take place from 9am to 3pm and furry four-legged friends are encouraged to attend. It is important however to remember that dogs must be on a lead and that cats are contained.

Council has put in place COVID-19 measures to ensure the safety of staff and those who attend the event. This will include QR code check-in (although not mandatory), hand sanitiser and Council staff will be encouraging social distancing and cleaning of stations in use.
