Kariong Library will relocate to new premises in a move that will improve serviceability to the community at a reduced operating cost.

After 16 years at its current location, Kariong Library will relocate to a new space in the Council owned Hill Youth Centre, 98 Mitchell Drive, Kariong on Tuesday 31 March.

To ensure a smooth relocation, the existing Kariong Library branch will be closed from Tuesday 17 March. Kariong Library will reopen at the new location on Tuesday 31 March.

The returns chute at the Curringa Road location will remain open 24/7 while the library is being relocated. On reopening, the operating hours for Kariong Library will remain the same – Tuesday-Friday, 9.30am-5.00pm.

Council Libraries, Learning and Education Manager, Beth Burgess said the relocation delivers on Council’s commitment to create a more flexible, welcoming and accessible space for customers and the community to utilise.

“The new space will be refurbished to include new carpeting, some new shelving, refreshed collections, comfortable seating in the foyer as well as enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity," Ms Burgess said.

“The inclusion of staff offices will also allow for extended mobile library and outreach services in the surrounding areas, as well as increasing security and safety of staff.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the community for their understanding and patience while we carry out these important upgrades.”   

The closest branches for those wishing to borrow, use public PCs or attend storytime sessions during this relocation period are:

• Woy Woy Library: Mon-Fri 9.30am-5.00pm | Sat 9.30am-12.30pm | Sun 12-3pm
• Umina Beach Library: Mon-Fri 9.30am-5.00pm
• Gosford Library: Mon-Fri 9.30am-5.00pm | Sat 9.30am-12.30pm

As always, our extensive range of free online resources and services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, homework help, music streaming and more will continue to be available 24/7 via centralcoast.nsw.gov.au/elibrary. The Central Coast Library Service app is also available to download for free from Apple iTunes or Google Play.

Mayor Lisa Matthews said this was a prime example of how Council was creating more welcoming facilities to meet the needs and expectations of all residents.

“Our libraries are continually reviewing their services and facilities to meet the needs of our growing community to visit, borrow and enjoy their library experience,” Mayor Matthews said.
