23/02/2018In conjunction with the current solo exhibition Ian PROVEST: LIFE STOCK Gosford Regional Gallery will be hosting two free ‘walking meditation’ and artist talk events with artist and yoga instructor Ian Provest.
The walking meditations will be held in the beautiful Edogawa Commemorative Garden (the Japanese garden).
Mr Provest believes that meditation and mindfulness have an important role in health and wellbeing.
“As we are more connected with technology we need to learn to be present. Awareness of the 'now’ and how we feel is of immense value,” said Ian Provest.
Provest is an internationally exhibited artist and Wagstaffe local, whose work is held in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia.
Following the walking meditations join the artist for a talk about his solo exhibition Ian PROVEST: LIFE STOCK. Self-awareness is a major theme of the 24 photographs included in the exhibition and his film “The Abbee Illuminations” in which 5000 candles are lit in an idle Central Coast abattoir.
Writer and former Director of the Australian Centre of Photography, Kon Gouriotis, has written: ‘Life Stock’ marks the first time the artist has become so conscious of himself in a space or time remote from the past and future. He wants us to become aware of many aspects of his life, no matter how dark or light the subject”
Council Team Leader Programs at Gosford Regional Gallery, Mr Tim Braham, said the Gallery is honoured to present the work of such a high calibre artist who is a member of our Central Coast community.
“The exhibition has been five years in the making and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to experience the sheer beauty of Ian’s artwork,” Mr Braham said.
The Ian PROVEST: LIFE STOCK exhibition continues at Gosford Regional Gallery until 8 April.
