10/04/2018The Coast’s highly anticipated Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex, poised to open in September, will be accepting expressions of interest from April 10, for significant events that will generate economic and social benefits for the local area.
Stage 1 of the Central Coast Regional Sporting & Recreation Complex is being jointly funded from the Australian Government ($10 million) and the Central Coast Council ($13.71 million).
The complex, located at Tuggerah, spans 18.28 hectares and consists of nine playing fields, accessible amenities and shared pathways. Stage 2 – subject to funding – will offer a 1500 seat grandstand and a multipurpose, indoor sporting centre.
Mayor Jane Smith said with construction now on track it was time to call for expressions of interest for major sporting and recreational events, including markets and festivals.
“We are excited to be in the position to secure regional events and programs that will stimulate tourism and income to our local area,” said Mayor Smith.
“The interest we’ve had from our preliminary discussions with associations including the Central Coast Academy of Sport, AFL NSW, Cricket NSW, and NSW Country Rugby League has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Events that once might have been reserved for Sydney and Newcastle are now a viable option for the Central Coast - the sky is the limit for our region.”
The Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex is expected to open in late September, with external bookings being accepted from then onwards.
