Central Coast Council is continuing to deliver new facilities for the Central Coast, as well as improving existing ones to improve the quality of life for our community and visitors.

Expanding Little Free Libraries

Our library service is continuing to inspire a love of learning and reading in the community with the installation of two all-weather Little Free Libraries on the shores of Tuggerah Lakes.

The newly installed boxes at Saltwater Creek Reserve, Long Jetty and Canton Beach add to our growing list of these free, accessible libraries across the Coast.

These libraries are set up so anyone can stop and pick up a book to read or drop in a book or two for the community to share.

Little Free Libraries are available at the following locations:

• YesterYear Hair Salon, Tuggerawong
• Gosford Smart Work Hub
• Gosford Hospital Emergency Department
• Peruch Avocado Farm – Wisemans Ferry Road, Somersby
• Burns Park, Gosford
• Mingaletta, Umina Beach Community Hall
• Peninsula Recreation Precinct
• Kariong and Kincumber Youth centres
• Wyoming Community Centre
• Rotary Park, Terrigal (anticipated to be available August 2016).

Discover a new play space

Plenty of nature play opportunities and grassed areas, along with modern play equipment and sculptures, are now ready for local families to enjoy at the brand new Narara Valley Precinct Park.

The new play space on Willari Avenue is a spacious, multi-use playground located in a large reserve with plenty of open space for recreational and group activities.

The play space has a strong focus on nature play and provides a highly vegetated environment for children to explore.

Narara Valley Precinct Park also offers great accessibility for a broad range of ages and capabilities, as well as fantastic complementary facilities including public amenities, barbecues and picnic furniture.

The park was a collaborative community effort, with over 200 local residents leaving their mark on the facility either through hand printing in the pathways or tree planting.

Long Jetty foreshore makeover

A popular section along the edge of Tuggerah Lake has had a makeover to recreate the historic Long Jetty foreshore and bring it back to its glory days as a popular swimming and boating paradise.

The newly created beach area is located next to the iconic Long Jetty and is ideal for shallow water or sand play for kids. It has great potential as a launch site for non-powered watercraft, such as kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

New shelters and barbecue facilities were installed along with wooden lounge chairs, and are proving particularly popular with visitors to the area.

The project also includes improvements to stormwater facilities so the water entering the lake goes through a constructed wetland to help remove major pollutants, including rubbish, and reduce the amount of nutrients entering the estuary.

Funding to the tune of $360,500 for the project was provided from the Federal Government’s National Landcare Programme to help make this project possible.
