Draft Playspace Strategy on public exhibition for community comment

Council’s draft Central Coast Playspace Strategy is currently on public exhibition and the community are invited to submit comments to help finalise the guidelines that will be used to manage and plan future playspaces for our region.

Council manage and maintain over 260 playspaces across the Central Coast which are loved by both residents and visitors to our region and will continue to invest in these valued public facilities for the community’s benefit.

The strategy was developed to set consistent policies, guidelines and goals for the development and sustainable management of playspaces across the whole Central Coast region. The Playspace Strategy also ensure future playspaces are appropriately located with equal distribution across the region, and are well designed, inclusive and will further develop our network of safe, quality playspaces to provide a range of play experiences catering to the varied needs of our community.

This is the first region-wide Playspace Strategy which has been influenced and informed by a review of the previous Wyong Shire Council and Gosford City Council strategies; previous community engagement on playspaces; an independent audit of existing playspaces and the principles of providing inclusive and accessible playspaces in line with the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play guidelines and Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan.

The strategy outlines the key principles that direct the provision of playspaces, hierarchy of playspace categories, inclusive and intergenerational playspaces, supporting infrastructure and Council’s sustainable management program. It also sets out short and long term actions and lists all existing playspace locations and notes what are proposed for the future.

The community is encouraged to view the draft Central Coast Playspace Strategy and FAQs, and provide feedback at yourvoiceourcoast.com by 14 August.
