Players and sporting groups of Tacoma’s Don Small Oval will be cheering following the completion of the new sportsground amenities building that will service the needs of this growing sporting community.

Council’s Director of Environment and Planning, Scott Cox said the new sportsground amenities replace the original Wyong Lakes Australian Football Club building which was destroyed by fire in 2013 and the existing dilapidated amenities building.

“Don Small Oval is home to the Wyong Lakes Australian Rules Football Club and Central Coast Cricket whose efforts to help source funding paid off with a collection of grants secured to deliver this project,” Mr Cox said.

“This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government, Central Coast Council, AFL NSW/ACT and Wyong Lakes FC through grant funding received from the Australian Government and NSW Government."

The new sportsground amenities building will meet the growing needs of local sporting groups, whilst ensuring compliance with current building requirements and Australian standards. The new building includes male and female toilets, an accessible toilet, canteen, clubroom, changerooms, umpires’ room and storage areas.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch MP said the NSW Government contributed $259,000 to the project.

“This is yet another example of NSW Government funding benefitting the Central Coast by supporting local sport clubs, as well as encouraging locals to enjoy our fantastic open spaces,” Mr Crouch said.

“I visited the construction site in May, and I’m delighted to be back today and see how the new clubhouse allows Don Small Oval to be better utilised by residents in Tacoma and surrounding suburbs.”

Wyong Lakes Magpies President, Simon Wood said they are extremely excited to see the completion of the facilities upgrade at Don Small Oval. 

“The old club house was a spiritual home to the club prior to being razed to the ground by fire in 2013. The new building exceeds our expectations and will be a fantastic asset for both the club and the local community."

Mayor Lisa Matthews praised the Wyong Lakes Australian Football Club for their patience and efforts to secure additional funding for a replacement sports amenities building for the community to use.

"Together, and with funding support from both Federal and State Governments, we have been able to deliver a new sportsground amenities building we can be proud of," Mayor Matthews said. 

“Sports facilities play an important role in the lives of people within our community and visitors to the area. 

“They are places in which we socialise, keep active and engage in community activities. They are valuable spaces and places where the community builds social networks and creates a sense of belonging.”
