Council has welcomed the findings of the Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA) investigation into pelican deaths at Blackwall.

An extensive investigation by the EPA has concluded that algal growth and toxins in stormwater are the most likely cause of death of the pelicans.

Council has been assisting the EPA with its investigation and has developed a strategy to reduce the presence of blue-green algae in the stormwater canal north of Alpha Road.

Council is committed to working with the EPA and other relevant experts and agencies to protect the pelican population in Blackwall and prevent further deaths.
