Central Coast Council is urging the community to take extra caution on roads today after heavy rainfall was recorded overnight. 

Gosford has received over 130mm of rain over the previous 24 hours, with the majority falling within a few hours last night: 100mm was recorded in 4 hours from 7pm on Thursday 24 February 2022. 

Overnight, Council responded immediately and opened Wamberal, Avoca and Cockrone Lagoons as they had reached the flood trigger levels. Earlier this week on Tuesday night, Council crews opened Terrigal Lagoon as a precaution. The Entrance Channel remains open with Council crews monitoring closely – current levels are 0.57m at 8.15am Friday 25 February 2022, which is below the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) minor flood level (0.9m).

Based on current conditions, berm intervention would occur when a 1.3m (moderate) flood is predicted – this is not the case. There is no expectation of property damage from the current rainfall event as a result of rising levels of Tuggerah Lake. More showers and thunderstorms are possible for the rest of the week although Tuggerah Lakes is expected to remain below the minor flood level.

Council will continue to closely monitor this weather event and provide updates to the community as required. 

Council urges the community to take care; don’t drive through flooded waters, avoid swimming in our beaches for 24 hours, and waterways and lagoons for three days after heavy rain, and please exercise extra caution due to some localised flash flooding.
