Central Coast Council is closely monitoring the weather conditions as the Coast braces for a wet weekend.

Administrator Dick Persson AM moved to reassure the community that Council was keeping a close eye on events as the rain moves down the Coast.

“Council has enacted its incident management team, so that we can make sure we are across any potential impacts this weather system has on our region,” Mr Persson said.

“Our staff have been monitoring local roads, waterways, water and sewer systems and The Entrance channel so that we may act when required.

“At this point, we have a couple of local roads closed and no other significant impacts.

“I am very aware that the community are concerned about the conditions at The Entrance Channel. I can assure them that we are watching closely, the channel is currently approximately 40m wide and not restricting the flow of any potential floodwaters.

“Our staff are on standby and prepared to assist with earthmoving machinery should the entrance begin to close, however the need for this is unlikely at this stage.”

Council earlier this year released an animation that explains the way Tuggerah lakes floods – Central Coast residents may view this on Council website: centralcoast.nsw.gov.au/council/news/understanding-and-preparing-flooding
