Council empowers artists with free Creating+Labs workshops

Central Coast artists, arts workers and arts organisations can now upskill and connect at the Creating+Labs series of professional development workshops, presented by Central Coast Council. The series features seven workshops running from July to October, covering a range of topics relevant to all creative disciplines.

Central Coast Council Acting Director of Community and Recreation Services, Beth Burgess explained the Creating+Labs series offers a comprehensive program designed specifically for the Central Coast’s vibrant arts community.

“These workshops address the needs identified through feedback and engagement sessions with local artists,” Ms Burgess said.

“They offer valuable professional development opportunities alongside mental health support services, fostering a thriving arts sector.”

Workshops include:

  • Creative’s Guide to Branding with Creative Business Plus (25 July): Develop your creative brand identity.
  • Funding Fundamentals with Creative Business Plus (8 August): Build the skills you need to get funding, manage funding and maintain it.
  • Culture Segments with Morris Hargreaves McIntyre (4 September): Rethink your understanding of audiences and how to engage them.
  • The Power of an Arts Alliance with the Hunter Creative Alliance (20 September): Get together and learn what it takes to build a local arts alliance.
  • Creative Industry Wellbeing with Hey Mate (3 October): Let’s talk about looking after yourself as a creative.
  • Making a Safe Work Environment in the Arts with Hey Mate (4 October): Make sure your organisation is creating safe spaces for artists and art workers.
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid for Teaching Artists with Hey Mate (17 and 18 October): Accredited two-day workshop for artists, teaching artists and arts providers who work with young people.

All workshops are free, but bookings are essential.

Central Coast Council Administrator, Rik Hart highlighted the program’s positive impact to the arts sector on the Central Coast.

“Investing in the arts sector is an investment in the future of the region,” Mr Hart said.

“A thriving arts scene attracts visitors, boosts the local economy and enriches the lives of Central Coast residents.

“Creating+Labs empowers local artists, fostering a vibrant arts scene that benefits everyone."
