26/06/2024Central Coast Council is inviting the community to provide input into the re-design and upgrade of the current playspace at Picnic Point Reserve, The Entrance.
The existing playspace has reached the end of its functional life, and the new playspace will be designed and constructed in accordance with the Central Coast Council’s Playspace Strategy and to meet current Australian Standards.
Funding for the upgrade is made possible with $190,000 from the NSW Government’s Local Small Commitments Allocation Grants funding (LSCA Program) and $150,000 from Council.
Council Director Community and Recreational Services Melanie Smith said the renewal of the Picnic Point Reserve playspace is part of Council’s Playspace Strategy, which continues to roll out across the Central Coast.
“Playspaces are valuable areas for our community to socialise and for kids to learn through active play. Council is responsible for over 250 play spaces across the Central Coast, and we are committed to ensuring that each, and every one of our community assets is maintained for residents and visitors alike,” Ms Smith said.
While the community is being invited to provide feedback into the design and upgrade of the Picnic Point playspace, infrastructure already to be included in the final design and construction of this District level facility will be:
• a new accessible path connecting the playspace with the existing skatepark
• appropriate shade structures
• concrete or sandstone edging for the playground surrounds
• three additional garbage bin slabs
Council Administrator Rik Hart said he is delighted to see the existing playspace receive a much-needed upgrade, and hopes that it will be enjoyed for years to come.
As the Central Coast community grows, it’s never been more important to provide young families and children with great outdoor playspaces, where kids can simply be kids, while enjoying the wonderful outdoors of the Central Coast,” Mr Hart said.
“I encourage the community to provide feedback into the new design, as we recognise our community is diverse and we want to provide a playspace upgrade that’s representative of this.”
You are invited to submit your feedback between Friday 21 June and Monday 22 July 2024 by visiting https://www.yourvoiceourcoast.com/PPRTE
Construction of the new playspace is expected to commence in early 2025.
