Community input in now being sought for the future use of 1A Jaques Street Ourimbah, following the site being transferred to Central Coast Council from the University of Newcastle in August this year.

The land on 1A Jaques Street is a rectangular block about 1050 square metres in size. The site had been owned by The University of Newcastle since 1994, having been used for teaching for over a decade.

Following the transfer of the land, Council said any future use of the site would be identified in conjunction with community consultation.

Council’s Acting Director Environment and Planning, Luke Sulkowski said following an initial community meeting, the wider community can now provide their input and suggestions as to what uses the site might include.

“We invited the local Member, David Mehan, the Ourimbah Regional Residents Group (ORRG) and residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity to the site to provide their input. This has now already provided some excellent ideas as to the future of the site.

“We have now opened up consultation to the wider community via on-line feedback, as well as a further in-person consultation meeting at a later date.”

Council Administrator Rik Hart said Council is very aware of residents’ interest in the future of the site, and its importance to the community.

“The overarching Ourimbah Area Strategy and Centre Masterplan was adopted by Council in March 2022. Following consultation on the future use of 1A Jaques Steet, the Master Plan will be updated to include the vision for this site.”
