25/10/2024Central Coast Council is inviting dog owners to join their free ‘Come and Try’ dog training sessions across the Coast in October, November and December. The sessions will provide valuable insights and practical skills for dog owners, with experienced trainers guiding participants through essential commands.
Council A/Director Environment and Planning, Matthew Corradin said this initiative aligns with Council’s commitment to supporting responsible pet ownership and creating a positive environment for residents and their dogs.
“These free sessions are designed to equip owners with the essential skills like loose leash walking and basic obedience and recall, all while being delivered in a positive and engaging format to raise happy, well-behaved dogs,” said Mr Corradin.
“Whether you're a seasoned dog owner or a new puppy parent, these sessions will provide valuable tools to strengthen your relationship with your furry friend while also offering an opportunity for socialisation with other dogs and their owners.
“We hope these sessions will inspire participants to continue their dog training journeys and become even more responsible pet owners.”
Council Mayor Lawrie McKinna said the benefits of the training sessions extend beyond the participants into the wider community.
"As the region with one of the largest dog populations in New South Wales, Council is committed to fostering a positive and safe environment for residents, as well as pet owners and their dogs,” said Mayor McKinna.
“Incidents involving dogs are often due to owners being complacent because they don’t think their dog will attack. As a dog owner myself, I recognise that she may be completely gentle most of the time, but if she is startled or uncomfortable, she still has animal instincts and the unexpected can happen quickly.
“By investing in these free sessions, we are encouraging a more responsible dog ownership which will ultimately lead to a more positive experience for both dog owners and the wider community.”
