26/11/2018Central Coast Council is running community consultation to guide a concept design for the redevelopment of Umina Skate Park and adjacent recreational zones to assist in securing funding to deliver a revitalised Peninsula Recreation Precinct.
An online survey is now open and pop-in community engagement sessions will run in Umina from Friday 7 December to Sunday 9 December. Community feedback will be used to guide the direction of the concept design for Umina Skate Park and plans for the adjoining open space areas, including the BMX pump track and half basketball court.
Mayor Jane Smith said community consultation was critical to ensuring Council continues to deliver quality facilities that meet the needs of the community.
“Our community has told us they want to partner with Council and engage in meaningful dialogue so their participation is used to inform decisions,” Mayor Smith said.
“We are listening and have invested funding this year to engage a specialist contractor, Trinity Skate Parks to run a number of community consultation sessions so together we can design a new recreational area that meets the needs of the local community.”

Pop-up Stall Community Sessions
• Friday 7 December, 4pm – 6pm Umina Skate Park
• Saturday 8 December, 1pm - 3pm Umina Surf Life Saving Club (upstairs in the Broken Bay Room)
• Sunday 9 December, 10am - 12pm Peninsula Recreation Precinct (Playground area next to the Sydney Ave Car Park Entrance)
Council has allocated funding from this financial years delivery plan to undertake community consultation and the development of concept design and plans, which will then be used by Council to secure funding for the construction.
It is anticipated that the redevelopment will provide additional socially inclusive recreational opportunities for a range of ages, abilities and sporting skills, attract families to congregate in the area, provide a safe and accessible venue for community activities and attract regional and significant community skate events.
The design will complement and contribute to the recreation precinct in aesthetic value and functionality to improve connectivity and community engagement across the reserve.
The community’s feedback from these sessions will then be collected, reviewed and play an important part in the development of the concept design and other plans for this area. Council will then present the designs back to the community for further consultation in the new year.
