31/03/2021Most Central Coast beaches, ocean baths and estuarine swimming locations will open for the long weekend, however Council is advising residents and visitors that they swim at their own risk.
Copacabana, Killcare and Umina beaches will however remain closed due to water quality concerns.
The following swimming locations will also remain closed:
- Avoca Lagoon
- Canton Beach
- Chain Valley bay
- Gwandalan
- Pearl Beach
- Summerland Point (Sandy beach).
Due to the extreme wet weather conditions and flooding events, storm water pollution may be impacting all swimming sites. The NSW Government advice is to avoid swimming if you can see signs of pollution such as discoloured water and floating debris. Daily predictions can be viewed on the NSW Government site: https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/beachapp/CentralcoastBulletin.aspx
Flags are being raised on most of our beaches to ensure that those who do choose to enter the water across the long weekend, can at least be assured that they are swimming in the safest part of the beach. Always check with lifeguards for latest beach conditions.
Surf life savers will assess the conditions of the open locations daily, should significant issues arise, beaches may close for periods of time. Please obey the directions of the Surf Life Saving volunteers on site.
Members of the community who have compromised immune systems, the elderly or particularly young should be particularly careful.
Our community can still enjoy many recreational activities associated with the beaches without risking their health by entering the water – consider walking, cycling, wildlife watching, picnicking or visiting one of the many local businesses along or near our beachfronts and foreshores.
Council also has a number of swimming pools open across the Coast – visit our leisure centres, gyms and pools web page for more information.
