The local community’s vision for a purpose-built, safe and inclusive place to skate in Terrigal will soon become a reality when the construction of a new skate park gets underway at Terrigal Lagoon Reserve.

The Skate Park will pay tribute to the late Banjo Pilon, a local resident tragically killed riding a skateboard in a Wamberal street in 2015.

The construction of the skate park will be funded by a $500,000 grant received from the Australian Government through its Community Development Grants Programme. 

Council’s Senior Manager, Property and Asset Management, Brett Sherar said Council had worked together with the community to select an ideal location and develop the skate park’s concept design.

“From the outset, this was very much a project driven by the community, for the benefit of the community,” said Mr Sherar.

“We thank the Australian Government for supporting the construction of this facility and are confident it will deliver tangible benefits to the local community and visitors to our region for a long time to come.”

Award-winning skate park and youth space designers, Convic Pty Ltd, who also designed and constructed Bato Yard, will commence works on-site from 18 April 2018, coincidently on Banjo’s birthday.
