17/05/2022This week we recognise and celebrate the massive contribution volunteers make to our community through National Volunteer Week!
The service volunteers provide is invaluable. Being a volunteer not only means contributing towards improving our community and environment, but has also proven social, mental, and physical health benefits.
The theme in Australia for 2022 is ‘Better Together’, and volunteering epitomises exactly that. Volunteering brings people together, it is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities. It creates a better society for everyone.
Council is committed to supporting volunteering through providing various opportunities in where people can get involved and give back to their community. Council currently has volunteers supporting the community through services at the gallery, Landcare, libraries, senior centres and our Environmental Volunteer Program.
Our Environmental Volunteer Program alone supports nearly 700 active volunteers and more than 80 sites across the Coast. Their efforts contribute approximately 20,000 hours per year working in our local environment.
Through volunteering, long-standing friendships are often formed, and people enjoy the opportunity to engage and share with like-mind new friends.
In which ever area you may volunteer, you are invaluable and your empathy unwavering.
To all volunteers, thank you for all that you do in our community.
