Be safe on our beaches and waterways

We’re fortunate to have a beautiful 80km coastline, with more than 40 unique beaches to enjoy year-round.

We’re home to bay beaches, open ocean, accessible beaches, dog-friendly beaches, pristine lakes, and lagoons.

In the warmer months, the Central Coast becomes a destination of choice for national and international tourists, and our beaches and waterways take centre stage.

Fifteen of our beaches are patrolled, and our lifeguards do an incredible job of keeping people safe.

Tragically, each year a number of drowning and near-drowning incidents take place despite our best efforts.

I urge you to be safe around our waterways by following the advice of Royal Life Saving Australia. Swim only at a patrolled beach between the red and yellow flags, looking for and reading safety signs.

Learn how to recognise hazards and avoid swimming alone. And please, always actively supervise children and keep them within arms’ reach.

Council is committed to improving safety and access around our beaches and waterways.

We are currently developing Coastal Management Programs for our part of the NSW Coast that will support the long-term management of our beaches and waterways. You can find out more about these plans by visiting the Your Voice, Our Coast website.

And I’m pleased to announce that full beach access has been restored at Soldiers Beach and Jenny Dixon Beach, ensuring residents, visitors and beach patrol teams can enjoy the coastline again.

Stay cool, stay safe and enjoy the wonderful lifestyle our coast has to offer.
