27/09/2024The Long Jetty Festival 2024, which was advertised to be held Sunday 6 October has been cancelled by the organiser.
A Development Application (DA/1117/2024) for the Long Jetty Festival was lodged on 22 July 2024 – with the requested date for the Festival being the Sunday 6 October – citing a maximum capacity of 20,000 people attending. However due to significant concerns raised by relevant authorities (NSW Police and Transport for NSW) during the assessment period, including the capability of the location to cater for the size of the event and matters relating to crowd management, traffic and pedestrian movement and other potential impacts on the locality and residents, the application was refused by Council on 9 September. While Council and the authorities are very sympathetic to the situation, priority has to be given to the concerns around safety and potential impacts.
Event organisations are required to submit a DA or event application in plenty of time, to ensure that all aspects of an event can be considered, issues worked through and all relevant authorities are able to support the event also.
Central Coast Council is very supportive of events across the Coast, and regularly works closely with event organisers to ensure they are successful and provide great entertainment and economic growth to the region.
Council officers have met with the applicant, along with NSW Police and TFNSW, in order to discuss the Festival and any options for alternate dates.
