25/03/2025We are delivering upgrades to key community spaces in The Entrance through The Entrance Revitalisation Project. We're revitalising the accessible playspace, Vera’s Water Garden and The Grant McBride Baths to ensure these spaces are vibrant and enjoyable for everyone.
These upgrades aim to create a more welcoming and inclusive town centre for both residents and visitors. The project prioritises enhanced safety, accessibility and overall enjoyment.
This project is fully funded by a $1,235,000 grant from the Australian Government's Investing in Our Communities Program, showcasing a strong partnership between the Australian Government and Council. We are grateful for the funding that has made this project possible.
The Entrance Revitalisation Project comprises three sub-projects:
Accessible playspace ($175,000)
We've made the playspace at The Entrance Waterfront Plaza more inclusive with an accessible swing for wheelchair users, new shade sails and general aesthetic improvements.
The accessible ‘We-Go-Swing’ is designed for children aged two to 12, including those who use wheelchairs. It features a spacious, level entry platform with a ramp, allowing children to easily roll their wheelchairs onto the swing. The handlebars, designed to rotate upwards for easy access, also enable children to work together to move the swing. With both accessible bays for wheelchairs and bench seating, children of varying abilities can play together and share in the joy of swinging. This swing promotes beneficial movement, aiding in motor skill development, strength and balance, while also encouraging social interaction.

Vera’s Water Garden ($750,000)
We're upgrading Vera’s Water Garden to a zero-depth design. This will improve safety, accessibility and reduce ongoing maintenance. Demolition is scheduled to start in April 2025 (after school holidays), with completion targeted for September 2025 (weather permitting).
From 24 March to 23 April 2025, we're seeking community feedback on the future of Vera’s statue. The central question is simple: Does Vera’s statue stay, or does it go? If Vera stays, she will receive a makeover. If she goes, a new modern statue will take her place.

The Grant McBride Baths ($310,000)
Works are progressing on the clubroom upgrade, new pipes, new pumps and shade sails at The Grant McBride Baths. Completion is targeted for 30 June 2025 (weather permitting).
