Council staff were on site at Wamberal Beach and The Entrance North last night with NSW SES and Police and spoke to residents and assessed the conditions.
Assessment of impacted areas this morning indicated that there has been no further damage to beachfront buildings.
Our priority is to ensure public safety around the impact areas.
Your continued advice is to keep personal safety front-of-mind and:
• avoid beach areas where there has been significant coastal erosion and sand loss
• avoid areas that have had coastal water damage
• stay away from beach escarpments, and do not intentionally collapse eroded beach escarpments - this is both dangerous and could cause further risk to properties in the immediate area
• Please obey signage and stay behind safety fencing
For emergency help, call NSW SES on 132 500. If life-threatening, call 000 (Triple Zero).
The risk of debris and material containing asbestos being washed ashore can increase following coastal erosion and inundation. Asbestos is dangerous only when broken up and fibres are released into the air, so the risk to public health is considered low. However, if you come across asbestos or unknown material at the beach, avoid touching it and please contact Council or the Environment Protection Authority so it can be removed.

Last night’s ocean conditions with large swells have caused significant coastal erosion, specifically impacting the southern end of The Entrance North and Wamberal.
Erosion has caused landslips at some private beachfront properties and steep sand escarpments. Debris is also washing up on other beaches including Blue Bay and Toowoon Bay.
Our crews inspected and have closed public beach access points for community safety.
Advice is to keep personal safety front-of-mind and:
- avoid beaches where there has been significant coastal erosion and sand loss
- avoid areas that have had coastal water damage
- stay away from beach escarpments, and do not intentionally collapse eroded beach escarpments - this is both dangerous and could cause further risk to properties in the immediate area
- follow emergency personnel direction and closure notices, and stay behind safety fencing

We have been liaising with local emergency agencies and sought advice and support from NSW Public Works Engineering and Emergency Management and provided advice to affected beachfront residents and landowners.
NSW SES personnel will be present at both locations this evening providing advice to residents.
Current forecasts are predicting high tide around midnight tonight at similar height to last night, however swells have dropped significantly since last night.
We will provide further updates on our Facebook and this web page.
