30/01/2024Return to school got you feeling like this Great Barred Frog? Maybe it’s time to rejuvenate by spending time at a wetland!
This Friday 2 February is World Wetlands Day and the theme is ‘Wetlands and Human Wellbeing’. For most of us, the beautiful waterways of the Central Coast are one of the main reasons we live here and just seeing the water each day helps us feel calm and happy.
Wetlands such as Lake Munmorah, Porters Creek and Wamberal Lagoon are great places to connect with nature and enjoy aquatic recreation opportunities - but wetlands are much more than just pretty locations!
Did you know:
- About 40% of the world’s plant and animal species depend on wetlands.
- Wetland biodiversity supplies food, clean water and jobs, protects against storms and floods, and mitigates the impacts of climate change.
Wetlands and people; we need each other. Let’s be grateful for our wetlands.
There are a number of ways you can get involved this World Wetlands Day:
- Join our Environmental Volunteering Program - a great way to get hands on with wetland conservation, meet like-minded people and gain a wealth of mental and physical health benefits. Find out more here.
- Download a copy of ‘Central Coast Calm’ - a calming colouring book inspired by the importance of our natural environment and well-being.
- Join one of our spotlighting events to study the Green and Golden Bell Frog at North Avoca.
