Administrator’s message – Planning Our Housing Supply Now and Into the Future

Last month I endorsed the Central Coast Local Housing Strategy, following an extensive public consultation period in 2023. I am pleased with the level of engagement we’ve had from key stakeholders and the wider community, which has led to a better, more robust, strategic planning document for Council.

Central Coast Council can influence housing through local land use zoning, development approvals, development charges as well some infrastructure delivery. This important document will influence a range of Council policy and advocacy positions over the next 20 years.

The Central Coast Local Housing Strategy focuses on the supply of housing on the Central Coast, the types of housing that are needed now and into the future, and potential barriers to meeting those needs. It identifies our long-term vision and will guide sustainable development and housing delivery that showcase the wonderful characteristics that make the Central Coast a desirable place to live.

There are five key strategies to address the projected housing needs for our rapidly growing local government area:

  • Prioritising housing delivery in areas of high amenity with access to services
  • Actively managing the housing pipeline
  • Incentivising the delivery of housing responsive to the needs of our community
  • Supporting the delivery of affordable housing
  • Introducing measures to promote design resilience.

To facilitate this work, Council is also applying for various NSW Government grants to undertake detailed master planning and review of planning controls in key centres across the Central Coast.
