13/03/2023I was delighted to walk a stretch of the Tuggerah Lake Foreshore shared pathway at Long Jetty recently to check out the pictures Council has stencilled along the pathway.
The purposeful education campaign aims to raise awareness of pathway etiquette and safety for everyone and is an action of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2021-2025. Consultation throughout the development of the DIAP told us loud and clear that the community wanted improved accessibility and inclusion on shared pathways.
These thought-provoking stencils were designed in consultation with the Access and Inclusion Reference Group (AIRG), Council’s Disability Inclusion Officer and Road Safety Officers as part of an ongoing community education campaign about the respectful use of shared pathways across the Central Coast.
Council’s AIRG is made up of people with lived experience of disability and people working in the sector, who guide Council on the implementation of the DIAP.
Walking the pathway with members of the AIRG, who have been critical advisors for Council staff on accessibility and inclusion was a really rewarding experience.
